Jeremiah Bishop’s favorite training route earned its nickname with glorious mountain top meadows, winding climbs and hillside farms reminiscent of the Austrian, German and Swiss settings where he has competed.

Now this magnificent scenery is the backdrop for the most challenging and adventurous Gran Fondo in the United States. The route begins in Harrisonburg, Virginia and covers 95 miles featuring 11,000 feet of climbing.

The Alpine Loop Gran Fondo provides the opportunity and inspiration for individuals and teams to take on great challenges in support of worthy causes. All event proceeds will directly support community charities, local schools and cycling infrastructure.

Shenandoah Mountain Medio and Valley View Piccolo route options encourage and challenge cyclists of all abilities to join in the festivities of Jeremiah Bishop's Gran Fondo.

At 71 and miles, these routes showcase the ideal scenery that makes Harrisonburg and Rockingham County famed riding destinations. The final miles of each route roll through the countryside and farming communities of Ottobine and Dayton where horse-pulled carriages are frequent sights along the country lanes. Back in Harrisonburg, riders arrive at the Turner Pavilion where all finishers receive a medal to commemorate the achievement.

Afterward, join fellow cyclists, friends and family to enjoy the festivities in Downtown Harrisonburg.

Downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia is a great setting for family fun. From the parade-style start of the Gran Fondo, the Harrisonburg Farmers Market is just a two-block stroll away; where you'll meet local farmers, butchers, bakers, artisans, crafters, coffee roasters and musicians. It's easy to stay all day!

One block from the market, you'll find art galleries, clothing boutiques and specialty shops. For the kids, the Explore More Discovery Museum awaits! Families can also enjoy visiting Dragonflies Toys, Wonder skate shop, You Made It pottery studio, and the Shenandoah Bicycle Company.

Kline's Dairy Bar, PULP Smoothies and Shenk's Bakery are great places for a treat, but you probably want to eat lunch at one of Downtown's many restaurants first! Not far from Downtown, Harrisonburg's many parks can provide shady quiet spots for a picnic and afternoon nap, or the perfect places to exercise and play.

Throughout the special event weekend, there will be an evening gala, Downtown events, music, movie screenings, and other activities.
